CSS wont launch.

When i try to open it it comes up with the 'Preparing to Launch' thing. Then the screen goes black as if it were launching. Then it goes back to steam games as if nothing has happened.

Delete clientregistry.blob usually works in these situations ?

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\

or

C:\Program Files\Steam

and restart steam.

have also tried restarting pc, deleting local content and reinstalling

have you changed any resolutions recently, and when your screen goes black. Does it require you to minimize "the black screen" to see css in your task bar, or does it crash?

I had a very similar problem a while back and had to do a system restore to get it to work. Sounds like the exact same issue, mine started the game, got a black screen as resolution changed, it said i was 'in game' on my friends list but then nothing happened and i got an xp error msg when it returned me to desktop.

Do you have the twk gui installed? I have noticed that sometimes the background messes up, so if you do remove the Background01.vtf from the cosole dir.

When the screen goes black it only does so for a second of so and then returns to the steam games list as if i had never tried to launch.

I pasted the TWK GUI into my cstrike folder last week, i didnt manage to make it work, but it hasnt affected anything since.

The only think i can think of is a windows update that occurred on the same day it stopped working, which i reset my pc for.

I guess i will try system restore

it kept popping up and minimizing my game lol
