This is crazy!!!

This is pretty much what they did with Left4Dead and it was a dreadful decision in many ways that results in annoyance and frustration when you end up on a shitty server which might get shutdown at any point.

When will these people learn??? Look as CS:S - it's getting on now, but it's still popular due to dedicated servers, mods and custom content.

The new Call of Duty has decided to ditch dedicated servers....

From some Amazon reviews about the new Call of Duty..

Dedicated servers have always set apart the PC gamers from the consoles, they've allowed us to MOD (which is a large part of PC gaming these days) and have just given us a greater amount of freedom that we've come to expect over the last 10/15-odd years of gaming online. There are 32514 signatures on one petition alone online, so that shows that I'm not the only one that's 'rather ticked' with this concept. Infinity Ward has produced one of the most successful titles ever with 'Call of Duty 4', and they're in serious risk of losing a large portion of their fanbase by ommiting this. Developers these days seem to be getting lazier and lazier, and I thought that Infinity Ward were better than that and would put customer satisfaction over a slightly larger profit margin by not paying their coders to write a dedicated server feature in, yet just copying-and-pasting the Xbox 360 version over to the PC and saying "Job Done".
The news is disappointing, and I sure hope they get their act together.

Reasons to avoid:

1 -
Up to now, clans (not infinity ward) rented tens of thousands of dedicated servers that were located on professional datacenters with huge bandwidth and low pings. And cheap.

2 - From MW:2 onwards
Dedicated servers are banned in this game. It means you will play online in some random kid computer while he downloads porn on the background 10 minutes before he goes to bed, by which time you'll get "server disconnected" message. He owns you.

3-
No more choosing the lowest ping server.

4-
No more choosing the best server in relation to number of users/ping

5-
No more customizable server options to better suit different styles of play (are you Solid snake or rambo?)

6-
Clans biggest nightmare.

7-
No custom maps

8-
You are also forced to pay for downloadable content every time it comes out if you want to play online. This, because IW system will conveniently point you to a game that HAS downloadable content, but because you CANT choose the servers you are stuck with it.

I think its been done to kill the PC sales. They can then go and blame pirates...

They want it on consoles more, cause they can then go DLC crazy and make more money. I think it could have been a good competitive clan game, but that's not gonna happen now is it.

One more game to forget.

Hope will still have some decent titles with dediserver options.

However the idea of not choosing a server to play on is totally pish, I guess ate least on l4d you won't play on someone elses pc, if cod goes like that as some other games do... suckz.

Clans will also bailout of such games, so I guess some software house will call it, land of opportunity for the legion of players like us.

Do they mean to drop dedicated servers completly? Or is it some sort of co-op mod we're talking about here? Because the public servers are going to be as in CODMW? Btw, I pre-purchased it, looking forward to play it, so so much.

im guessing they are trying to build an iteration of battlenet
reason: fight vs piracy. No dedicated servers = no pirate servers. Or so they prolly think.

For FPS, seems like a pretty dumb move on a PC.

And if ua re wondering why the sudden change
here
Publisher(s) Activision

Look up the ceo of activision blizzard. He's some monetezation-at-all-cost freak.

Well, its actually not a good move at all, there is a petition online with like 40000 sigs about it...

I think its a stupid idea to have on an ONLINE FPS...

Who cares about the campaing? its fun but not something that will make it live for long.

Again I bet some publishers are happy with the decision... one less "stealer" of online players.
