Duke Nukem developer goes bust ...

Veteran games developer 3D Realms has closed down because of a lack of funds.

Founded in 1987, the firm popularised the concept of shareware gaming and published the seminal Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein 3D first-person shooters.

The company was working on a follow-up title, Duke Nukem Forever, which after being in development for 12 years has become the object of industry derision.

12 years in deveplopment is a no no on todays industry, last one to take the risk on 4 years dev was Valve and the HL2 engine, but they had some other backups, another example is blizzard taking 2 years to kick out the starcraft 2 and diablo3 sequels, but then again, they have imense cashflow backup (wow argh)

Its a shame loosing part of our gaming history, but then again, it impossible to catchup with 12years in the dev room.
