Definitely you have something going on there, try another lan cable also, if you manage to have one, try a sucky usb ethernet adapter, try another router port, check for port forwarding on the router, other day I had a silly issue with minecraft and was a redirect on the router for emule.

Also was monitoring since I arrived home on hlstats, and had around the same 30 to 45 ms ping...

I'll try again later with Steam.exe running, if so, then it's something to do with the steam client, I gotta go to the job centre today, woo :/ Thanks for all the help guys, I hope I can sort this out as soon as too. I decided I hadn't removed my temp files for a way, found 5GB of crap, removed it all, and hey presto, ping is fine again. I guess some of the temporary internet files were still using the internet even when a browser was closed.

liger OFFLINE Official TWK Admin Posts: 1318 Karma: 15	how much ur hdd filled really does not affect the ping (unless you have no empty space left and fragmented hard drive and downloading at high speed) im guessing there was inf act spyware or some process downloading/uploading in the background
