I join CSS (any server) and my ping keeps maxing out to 700ms (lerp: 100ms) then going back down to a regular 23ms.

I've been on GarrysMod and other MMOG's and the ping is fine, it seems that it's only CSS, where the ping decides to max out then lower repetitively, anyone know why it's doing this?

Anyone else reports on this?

It could just be me, I was just on the test server with Mentoz, Colin and Pooky.

Their ping was fine, but mine kept maxing out too 700 every 2-3 minutes, then after 10-15 seconds of being a vedge, it'd lower back down to 23-30ms.

I've checked everything, Antivirus, firewall, steam beta updates the works, and there's nothing eating at my wireless bandwidth =/

is it possible at all to test with ethernet?

I am on an ethernet liger, I don't use wireless for my PC as I require a permanent connection to my router. That's why I'm so confused.

Nothing runs on my wireless except my iPod which is currently turned off, so I shouldn't be getting any lag.

I've been through the steam support and it suggest it's my PC, however they mention Windows XP but I'm on Windows 7 ultimate, and I have my wireless turned off, it's strictly Ethernet..

Which is why i'm confused, I've never had lag like that before, for over a year... Why now?
Is it possible I may have caught some sort of... Virus? Trojan? =/

1) run->cmd
type: ping google.com -t
its infinite loop of pinging, see if it ever times out
2) turn off wireless on your router and test again

and ofc check for spyware etc

If google.com (try several other sites) times out
type: tracert www.sitethathastimedout.com

that will show you, where it is timing out

also you can try pinging the twk server (Tunes, is server pingable or is it ebing blocked?)

That's what I got from pinging Google, as you can see it's spiking frequently then going back down =/

now you have to eliminate
1) other pc's (disconnect EVERYTHING else from the router)
2) wifi acting up (disable wifi)

do the test again

if u are getting same results, its the prob on your pc

Well, its something wrong with my PC, but I can't see what, there's no virus' or what-not..and it only seems to be affecting my CSS =/ .. I'm taking a guess that i'm going to have to reinstall it =/

or you could jsut install a prog that shows which prog is dling what
